Chat with Student Financial Services- Graduate Program in Public Health
Description
The Office of Student Financial Services provides comprehensive information and services about how to finance your education at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS). We offer a wide range of financial assistance options, including part-time employment (work-study programs and other opportunities), loans, and program scholarships.
Once you have been admitted to ISMMS and we have received all of your financial aid materials, we assess your financial need. We notify students of the availability of their financial aid award letter by email.
Join us for our monthly chats with a financial aid representative to learn more about what your options are. Prospective, admitted, and students who have accepted their offer of admission for the Graduate Program in Public Health are all welcome to attend. We look forward to speaking with you!

Questions & Answers
- Does your program offer scholarships?
We offer a very limited number of merit-based scholarships which are intended to cover one course per term. Admitted students will be notified if they have received a scholarship by email starting in late February and will continue to be notified until all scholarships have been granted. Only students selected for a scholarship will be notified.
- What other types of aid do you offer?
Federal financial aid typically comes in the form of student loans and work-study. If you haven’t already, be sure to fill out the FAFSA for federal financial aid. If you are intending to enroll at our institution, you will also need to submit the “Complete Grad App” Graduate Student Application found on the school’s Office of Student Financial Services website. Submitting these documents will allow you to view your financial aid package for your graduate education.
- Are there any research/teaching assitantships or part/ full-time work opportunities available?
Teaching Assistantships – Faculty select second year students or those who have advanced knowledge/training in a subject area to serve as teaching assistants for a course. Faculty sometimes select students from their previous class or student networks, or advertise the position through our MPH student email listserv.
Research Assistantships – Faculty looking for research assistants may recruit students through their classes/networks, or advertise the position to the student listserv. Students also inquire about research assistant positions directly to faculty after reading their publications, attending a lecture of theirs, or otherwise expressing their interest in the research. Some students begin their search by seeing different research areas or reading faculty profiles here.
• Faculty may have funding for these positions through grants or other sources of Sinai funding.
• Annually, the Program funds a number of positions through the Federal Work Study Program for eligible students. To determine eligibility, a student must submit the FAFSA to Student Financial Services.
Research Coordinator Positions/Other Employment – Students looking for part-time or full-time employment at Mount Sinai do so through networking, through applying to positions advertised in the weekly Friday Finds emails from the Program, and through applications to the system general (https://careers.mountsinai.org/). The Manager for Public Health Career Services often invites Mount Sinai talent recruitment to events so that students can learn strategies for applying to the health system.
- I am an international student, do I qualify for financial aid?
Students who are F1 visa holders are not eligible for federal financial aid. The Institute of International Education has an international student scholarship search. Depending on their visa, international students can apply to on-campus jobs at the school, including teaching assistant jobs our program offers. We recommend that international students take the time to research outside funding opportunities from their home country or health-related organizations.
